There is a never ending supply of laundry in my house. For only three people living here, there seems to be enough laundry for a small army. Needless to say, I spend a lot of time in the laundry room. Over time it has become the catch all room. Cleaning supplies and anything else that I didn’t know where to put it has ended up cluttering it. I’ve been on a organizing journey ( check out my posts about the pantry and kitchen) and the laundry room was on my list. If you need some laundry room organization, this allow me to provide the inspiration.
Laundry Room Essentials
My laundry room is incredible small but needs to hold a large quantity of stuff. While my washer and dryer are large, pushing them all the way against the walls gave me just enough space for this cart to roll in between. It keeps all my essential laundry supplies within easy reach and organized. The bottom tier has my candles. The second tier has cleaning supplies that I use the most frequently. The top though is all things laundry. The little blue trash can I got from the dollar tree is where I put lint from the drawer. The metal bowl collects miscellaneous socks and all the things left in pockets.
Organizing Your Extra Junk
Due to limited storage space and my neat freak personality, I don’t have a junk drawer. So where is a girl to put all the junk drawer items? As a teacher I got one of these tool boxes to keep supplies. It worked so good that I thought it would be perfect for my miscellaneous junk. I wiped out the ole label maker and ta da! All my junk is perfectly organized and easy to find without any digging.
Small Cleaning Supplies
As previously mentioned, I’m a bit of neat freak. I pride myself on my tidy house so I have a cleaning solution for anything and everything. I like to keep them where I can easily access them but where they are still out of the way. They come in a pack of 6 so I used the other one throughout my house. This show organizer is the perfect solution. I even organized it by what I need to clean so like products are together. Overflow and the most dangerous items are kept on the shelf above my appliance in labeled totes. My iron and steamer is up there too. The largest tote is the perfect size to hold an 8 pack of paper towels.
Large Cleaning Supplies
Everyone in the family has a laundry basket for dirty clothes. The laundry room baskets were just for taking things to the washer and out of the dryer. I used to have 2 big plastic ugly one but I had some issues with them. Firstly, I would pile it high with dirty clothes and subsequently overload my washer. The other one was I would take clothes out of the dryer and leave them sitting one of the baskets for DAYS instead of putting them away. Going to 1 tote solved this because it is just the right size for a load and I have to put things away BEFORE I start the next load. My vacuum lives in the laundry room because its a cleaning tool and so why wouldn’t it stay with its buddies? Mop, broom, and ironing board hang up behind the door.
Keeping The Clean, Clean
The way I figure it, if you are going to be spending in a place, then it should be somewhere you are comfortable. I know my laundry room organization isn’t the most beautiful but it works for me and my family. Someday when I’m not renting, Ill have a ship lapped laundry room with cabinets and all the farmhouse gorgeousness. I’m still hoping that someday houses and clothes will be self cleaning and laundry rooms will be a thing of the past. Until then though, I’ll love and appreciate my little laundry haven.
